About Rovinj
|
With its fortified double walls and three Town Gates
from the early Middle Ages, Rovinj (Ruvignio - 7th c.) presents an example of urban
architecture of the Mediterranean type. The church of St. Euphemia (1736), with the statue
of the patron saint of Rovinj standing on its 60 m high bell tower, dominates the town.
For boaters it is interesting that the statue turns depending on the wind direction. The
church interior treasure a valuable collection of art works from the 17th c.
Baroque palaces, former Town Hall (today a valuable museum), as well as the Franciscan
monastery complex with a precious Franciscan library are only part of the cultural
heritage of Rovinj.
The Rovinj Riviera offers its visitors numerous entertainment possibilities, both as
daytime activities (morning gymnastics, aerobics, children's activities, table tennis,
games, sightseeing tours of the town, visiting the museum, aquarium, forest park), and
different kinds of night life (dancing and entertainment programs). Sports activities are
an essential feature of Rovinj's tourist offer. A great number of sports competitions and
tournaments are organized. There are also gyms, trim tracks and bicycle paths in the pine
woods.
