(UNESCO World Heritage List)
One of the most beautiful Mediterranean cities is situated on the very south of the
Croatian coast. By its high stone city walls and the beauty of its ancient city nucleus it
has since time immemorial attracted many artists, historians, scientists and chance
travellers.
Ever since time immemorial the center of city life has been Lu?a Square from where the
main street Stradun spreads towards the west. Nearby is Sponza Palace (the Dubrovnik
Republic Archives), and Orlando's Column from the 15th c. in the center of the square. On
the southern side of the square is the church of St. Blaise, patron saint of the city, and
the City Hall (19th c.), National Theater from the same period, Rector's Palace (15th c.),
Bishop's Palace and the grand facade of the Baroque Cathedral (17th c.) is on the western
side of M. Dr?ić Square.
Dubrovnik has 2,554 hours of sunshine per year, and apart from its lush subtropic
vegetation (olives, almonds, citrus fruits, rosemary, laurel, holm oak, pine, stone pine,
cypress), and the millenium-old historical heritage and interesting surroundings, it also
boasts extremely rich tourist facilities. Besides a large number of hotels, facilities for
all sports are available: swimming, sailing, waterskiing, swimming pools, saunas, fitness
centers, solariums, tennis courts etc.
The many restaurants and taverns in Dubrovnik offer a rich selection of local dishes,
traditional cuisine and different sorts of wines.
Particularly interesting is the cultural program and entertainment in the city that hosts
the traditional world famous Dubrovnik Summer Festival (July 10 - August 25); exhibitions
throughout the year; well-known Carnival - Dubrovački karnevo; Feast of St.
Blaise (February 3) also the Feast of the city of Dubrovnik, and many other events.
