Portic Beach, Kaprije: A Leisure Seeker's Guide to Croatia's Coastal Gem
Beach character
Portic Beach is defined by its dramatic coastal geography. The shoreline is predominantly covered in boulders, creating a rugged yet picturesque setting. The beach's shallow, moderate-depth waters gradually slope toward the open sea, making it accessible for swimmers who navigate the rocky terrain. The surrounding landscape is marked by steep hills, offering panoramic views of the Adriatic. This natural topography contributes to the beach's relatively low crowd index during peak season, ensuring a more tranquil experience compared to busier Istrian shores.Swimming and shore
Swimming conditions at Portic Beach are shaped by its rocky seabed and moderate depth progression. While the clear waters are inviting, the boulder-strewn shoreline requires careful navigation for entry. Some visitors note the ease of wading into the sea, while others suggest the installation of small jetties with steps to improve accessibility. The beach's depth increases gradually, making it suitable for leisure swimmers but less ideal for those seeking deep-water immersion.Facilities and activities
Facilities at Portic Beach are minimal but functional. Free parking is available along the road leading to the beach, as noted by multiple visitors. A nearby beach bar provides refreshments, though no structured amenities like showers or toilets are listed in the beach catalog. The site is particularly notable for its dog-friendliness, with designated areas of grass and shade, and a dog shower facility. However, one reviewer highlighted the absence of poop bag dispensers, a consideration for pet owners.Access and location
Located on the island of Kaprije in the Istrian Peninsula, Portic Beach is accessible via road from the mainland town of Rovinj. Its coordinates (43.69022, 15.71559) place it within the broader sailing region of the northern Adriatic. The beach's proximity to the mainland makes it a convenient stop for yacht charter guests exploring the Istrian coast, though no specific marinas or anchorages are listed in the catalog for this exact location. What visitors say
Visitors consistently praise Portic Beach for its dog-friendly policies and scenic setting. Multiple reviews highlight the ease of parking and the presence of a nearby bar, with one caller noting it as 'one of the most beautiful and spacious dog beaches in this part of Istria.' However, some visitors express concerns about the rocky shoreline's impact on water access, suggesting improvements like jetties with steps. Cleanliness is generally rated as good, though one reviewer pointed out the absence of poop bag dispensers for dog owners.Practical tips
For visitors, consider bringing a poop bag for dogs, as dispensers are not available. Those with mobility challenges may find the rocky shoreline challenging for water entry. The beach's proximity to Rovinj means it's worth exploring the town's restaurants and cultural sites during visits.Exploring the coast by yacht
For yacht charter guests, Portic Beach's location on Kaprije offers a strategic vantage point for exploring the northern Adriatic. The nearby town of Rovinj, a popular sailing hub, provides access to marinas and boat rental services. While the beach itself is not marked as an anchorage, its proximity to the mainland and Istrian coastline makes it a convenient stop for those navigating the region.Dog-Friendly Amenities

Very nice beach. Easy to go into the water. Many place to free parking. And clear water. Also a beach bar is nearby.
A must with you dog: one of the most beautiful and spacious dog beaches in this part of Istria, white gravel beach, clear water, free parking, several bars.
Nice pebbly bay with mini marina for local small boats, dogs allowed, but not easy to enter water. Why not build a few small jetties with steps for easy in and out of water?
Probably the best dog beach we’ve been to during our stay in Croatia. You can park the car next to the beach. Dogs are very welcome. There are pebbles but also some area with grass and shade, a shower for dogs is provided, too. Poop bag dispenser is missing though. frank “
