General
44°19'.6N 14°37"5E Charts BA 575, MK 9, 11, lmray M25 Uvala Premuda is a wooded cove near the centre of the southwest-facing coast of Otok Premuda, and is approximately 1Y.M southeast of Luka Krijal. It is possible to anchor and take lines ashore here, particularly in a bora. The best shelter is available in the SE part of the bay where there are depths of 12m to 4m. The bottom is sand and weed and the holding is good. The bay is sheltered from N through E to SE. Approaching Uvala Premuda beware of the chain of islets and reefs which extend in a line NW-SE, parallel to the coast from W of Uvala Premuda. The SE part of the chain off Uvala Premuda is mostly below water. Entering Uvala Premuda do not to pass too closely to the S headland because of a shallow rocky spit extending a short distance N. OTOK SILBA Charts BA 575, MK 9, 11, lmray M25 The wooded island of Silba lies between Otok Premuda to the SW and Otok Olib to the E. Silba has been inhabited since the time of the Romans, and it is the Latin word silva, meaning forest, which has given the island its present name. In the 17th and 18th centuries many of the island families were connected with the sea. It was one of Silba's sea captains who built the lookout tower, which stands in the centre of the village. In 1852 the inhabitants of the island clubbed together to buy 0. Silba from its owner, a sea captain from Veli Losinj. Today the islanders do some fishing and farming, and in the summer rent out rooms to visitors. There are several restaurants and cafe/bars in the village, but tourism does not really seem to have got off the ground here. The majority of visitors come by yacht, and either moor in Luka Silba, or anchor off the harbour. The island remains a quiet place. Donkeys and tractors are used on the narrow paths. The W coast of Silba has two anchorages and a ferry pier. The harbour is on the E side of the island. The houses of the village straddle the narrow isthmus, which separates the harbour from the pier.
