Uvala Artaturi

44°34'-4N 14°24'.6E Charts BA 202, 1426 (plan), MK 8, lmray M24 Uvala Artaturi, a deep inlet just NW of the entrance to Luka Mali Losinj, offers good shelter and a pleasant anchorage. It is very popular. The approach and list of lights are as for Mali Losinj. The head of Uvala Artaturi is divided into one large bay to the E and three smaller bays to the W. The E bay is separated from the other three by a rocky outcrop extending nearly 1 cable underwater in a S direction. The best anchorage is in the E part of the bay, where there is plenty of swinging room. The bays on the W and NW sides are full of moorings, leaving little space for visitors. It is possible to anchor W of the spit as indicated in the plan. Alternatively anchor and take a line ashore. The bottom throughout is sand and the holding is good. Uvala Artaturi is sheltered from W through N to E. In strong S winds, the best shelter from both the wind and the swell is in Uvala Kandija. In this bay it is necessary to anchor and take lines ashore since the bay is so small. We spent four days anchored here sheltering from a SW gale. Uvala Kandija was totally sheltered from the wind and the swell. The small village of Artaturi, situated at the head of the bay near the rocky spit mentioned above, has a shop (only open during the summer season), a restaurant and a hotel. Most of the houses are holiday homes. There is a beach shower with a tap at the head of the E part of the bay. A boat park has been established near the village and it looks as if a slipway is going to be built on the NW side of the bay. The bus into Mali Losinj or to Cres can be caught from the main road just beyond the village. Uvala Liski
