Starigrad-Paklenica {Velebitski Kanai)

44°17'-6N 15°26'.6E Charts BA 575, MK 72, lmray M25 Starigrad-Paklenica is the gateway to the Paklenica ational Park, and lies at the foot of the Velebit mountains on the NE coast of the Velebitski Kanal. It lies approximately 2YzM northwest of Vinjerac. The bora blows at its strongest along this part of the Velebitski Kanai and Starigrad-Paklenica should only be visited in settled weather. As it is, the NW side of the quay is uncomfortable with the afternoon breeze. Strong W winds are dangerous. There is no real harbour here, just a quay with depths of 3m decreasing to lm alongside. The light on the end of the breakwater is Fl.R.3s7m3M. The immediate approach to the quay is free of dangers, but if approaching from SE note that shoals extend off Rt Stara Kula. The outer edge of these shoals is marked by a light buoy (Fl(3)R.10s5M). A ridge of rocks, only just below the surface, extends up to 3 cables offshore for 7 cables NW of the light buoy. Starigrad-Paklenica is located about l '/3M northwest of the light buoy. Fuel can be obtained from a filling station on the main road, about YzM to the E of the harbour. In the village are two supermarkets, a fruit and vegetable market, pharmacy, Post Office, telephone, ATM, tourist information office, cafe/bars, restaurants and hotels.
