45°41'.8N 13°09'.5E Charts BA 1471 Gene fa I Lignano Sabbiadoro is the westernmost entrance to the Laguna di Marano from seaward. If wishing to visit Marano, Aprilia Marittima marina, or the town of Lignano Sabbiadoro itself, this entrance is the nearest and most direct approach from seaward. The town of Lignano Sabbiadoro is a busy holiday centre. It stretches for over 3M along the coast NE of the mouth of Fiume Tagliamento. The hotels, apartment blocks, and piers (one of which appears to emulate Sydney Opera House) are conspicuous. The town has a small harbour entered from the lagoon, and a large marina (with 1,200 berths for yachts of up to 40m), just inside the entrance to the Laguna di Marano.
Approach
Approaching from S or W the lighthouse on Punta Tagliamento comes into view before the town. Approaching from E the town is the first big settlement after Grado. The entrance to Laguna di Marano at Lignano Sabbiadoro lies to the NE of the town. The islands on the other side of the entrance have not been developed. Beware of the shellfish beds S of Lignano Sabbiadoro. A lit fairway beacon (R and W bands, Fl.2s) is located S of the entrance channel to Lignano Sabbiadoro. Between the fairway beacon and the first wooden posts marking the channel there is an area, where depths are less than 2m. It is therefore advisable to steer NE from the fairway buoy until the marked channel is open, before changing course to follow the channel into the lagoon. The channel is wide, and normally has a minimum depth of 3m over the bar. After strong S winds, however, depths may be less, so proceed with caution. Although there are navigation lights marking the entrance it is inadvisable to attempt a first entry after dark. At night the main lights marking the entrance are obscured over part of the approach channel (see plan). It is possible that the sectors of the lights are not adjusted to follow the movement of the channel. In strong onshore winds breaking seas may be encountered in the entrance. Lignano Sabbiadoro can also be approached via the lagoons from Grado or Porto Buso.
