Approach
A fairway beacon is located 2.3M southeast of the breakwaters. A course of 300° leads from this beacon, between a pair of light beacons, and into the entrance. Conspicuous light structures are located on the seaward ends of the breakwaters. The light structure to starboard is a building painted with black and white chequers, whilst the light structure to port is a tower painted with red and white bands. A number of light beacons mark the channel between the breakwaters. It is important to keep to the channel because of shoals. The tidal flow can be strong in the entrance, and caution is therefore required when entering. There is normally a minimum depth of 1 lm in this channel, but silting can reduce it. At night leading lights, bearing 300°, lead through the entrance. The rear light is exhibited from a tall tower located on the island of Murano, and the front light is exhibited from a white metal lattice work tower close to Le Vignole.
