Porto Corsini (Marina di Ravenn)

44°29'-4N 12°17'E Charts BA 1467. 1445 (plan), 220 Porto Corsini is the commercial port of the histonc city of Ravenna, a World Heritage site which is ,f_a ous for its exquisite mosaics dating from the 5th and 6th centuries. Yachts are not allowed to go up the canal linking Porto Corsini to Ravenna, nor are they permitted to berth in the commercial port. Fortunately however there is large marina (in the process of being expanded) plus two yacht clubs, where visitors can berth. in the outer harbour.
Approach
Beware of the numerous gas and oil platforms to seaward of the entrance to Porto Corsini. At night all of these platforms are lit, but not all have fog signals. The outer breakwaters, which protect the entrance to Porto Corsini, are 1-4M long and are the most 5.1 Italy: Slovenia to Ancona The entrance to the marina at Porto Corsini easily identified objects seen from seaward. The frequent traffic in this area, including hydrofoils, can also be a guide to the entrance. In poor visibility, the distinctive white octagonal tower of the lighthouse located on the shore near the root of the inner S breakwater can be difficult to see. A red and white fairway beacon is situated 1-4M east-northeast of the head of the breakwaters. There is also a dangerous wreck, marked by a light beacon (Fl(2)10s) 8 cables SE of the fairway beacon. Another dangerous wreck, which is not marked, lies 8 cables NNW of the fairway beacon. Once the breakwaters have been identified, steer a course to pass between them and thence into the S part of the outer harbour. Two unlit buoys mark the edges of the dredged channel in the outer harbour. A buoyed channel, dredged to 4.3m, leads to the marina. Beware of vessels, including hydrofoils, leaving or entering the harbour at speed. Note that the tide can reach 3kns on the ebb, and about Yikn on the flood.

Berth
Berth at the marina as directed. The marina can accommodate yachts of up to 40m in length. It may also be possible to berth at one of the yacht clubs.
Shelter
The marina and sailing club berths are reasonably well sheltered in all conditions.

Water and electricity are laid onto the marina and yacht club pontoons. Toilets and showers. Petrol and diesel from the fuel berth in the inner basin of the commercial port (see plan). Italian gas and Camping Gaz. Various food shops are situated near the harbour on the S bank of the canal, including a supermarket and a butcher. Fish market and drogheria. Post Office, internet facilities, banks and ATMs. in the town. Wellstocked chandlers near the harbour. Several restaurants and bars nearby. Public transport (including a ferry) to Ravenna, where there is a better selection of shops. Doctors, dentists, hospital. Tourist information, hotels and restaurants. Bus service, taxis, car hire. Repairs to hull, engine, electrical/electronic installations and sails can be undertaken. Visits
Ravenna is only a few miles away from the marina and can be visited by bus or ferry. (Note that the ferry ticket can be bought from a machine at half the price charged onboard.) As the base for the Western Mediterranean fleet Ravenna was an important port during the rule of the Emperor Augustus. From AD 402 it was the capital of the Western Roman Empire, but was captured by the Goths in 493, and later came under Byzantine rule (from AD 540). A number of fine monuments with exquisite mosaics date from this period, including the mausoleums of the Empress Galla Placidia and of Theodoric, and the churches of S. Apollinare Nuovo and San Vitale. Cervia
