Pesaro

43°55'-4N 12°54'.5E Charts BA 220 Pesaro lies at the mouth of Fiume Foglia with high, wooded land to the NW and SE. Cattolica is about 7M distant, and Fano lies about 6M to the SE. The commercial harbour lies to the E of the river and is not connected with it. Between the river mouth and the commercial port a yacht basin has been built, using Molo Foglia to the W and the W harbour breakwater to the E as part of its defences. In 2007 there were a few moorings in the yacht basin, but it had still not been developed as a manna. The town is a holiday resort as well as a centre of industry. It is a pleasant place with a number of buildings of historical or cultural interest. The composer Rossini was born in Pesaro. Approach
Pesaro is easily identified from seaward by the formation of the land around it, and by the white lighthouse of Monte San Bartolo overlooking the town. The lighthouse, which lies to the W of Pesaro, exhibits its light at a height of 175m (574ft). The harbour is on the W side of the town, which has a large number of high-rise buildings. Ships at anchor off Pesaro can also be a clue to the identity of the town. In the nearer approach the entrance to the commercial harbour is obvious. The yacht basin entrance is immediately to the W. Seas in the approach to Pesaro are comparatively shallow, and in strong winds from Nor E heavy seas make entry dangerous. Note that shallow banks lie to the W of the yacht basin, and to the E of the E breakwater of the commercial harbour. Mussels are cultivated in the vicinity of Pesaro. The mussel beds are indicated by a yellow light buoy (Fl.YAM). The yacht basin at Pesaro has not been developed to its full potential

Berth
Space for visitors is limited in the commercial harbour, although a berth may be available at the sailing club. The sailing club moorings are arranged bow/stern-to the quay. There is more space for visitors in the Yacht basin.
Shelter
Good shelter from all directions in the commercial harbour, but strong northerlies send a swell into the Yacht basin.

Facilities
Water taps are placed at frequent intervals along the E quay of the commercial harbour, and there are taps near the sailing club berths. Petrol and diesel from the fuel berth on the W side of the commercial harbour (see plan). The harbour is well equipped with containers for taking used engine oil, so this might be a convenient place to do an oil change. Italian gas, Camping Gaz, paraffin. There are a few small grocery stores near the harbour, as well as chandlers, restaurants and bars, but there is a better selection of shops, etc., farther away in the town.
