45°19'-2N 13°33'.8E Charts BA 207 (includes plan), 1471, MK 2, lmray M24 Novigrad is a pleasant old town built on a peninsula situated between Luka Mirna to the S and Luka Novigrad to the N. It still has its town walls, battlements, towers and narrow streets. Novigrad is a popular and useful port of call, and the recent construction of a luxury marina has increased the facilities for visiting yachts considerably. The inner harbour (which was the 'marina' until 2006) is now reserved for local craft.
Approach
The town with its white belfry on the peninsula to the S of the harbour is clearly visible from seaward. The outer breakwater has a distinctive white octagonal light tower on the N end. Approaching from S or W beware of a 3m shoal, PliCina Val, which lies just over 5 cables SW of the light on the outer breakwater. This shoal is marked by an unlit buoy, painted in red over a black band with two black balls on top. 2 cables SW of the light on the outer breakwater there is another shoal with 4.8m over it. Both these shoals lie within the red sector of the light on the breakwater. The SW shore of the peninsula on which Novigrad is built is shallow. Near the edge of this rocky bank, approximately three quarters of a cable SW of the Novigrad root of the breakwater, there is an unlit green pole beacon (marking PliCina Meja). Approaching from N do not approach the coast too closely because of a shallow, and in parts rocky, bank which extends up to 2 cables offshore. The new marina lies on the E side of the bay, and the entrance (in October 2007) is on the SE side close to the town harbour. Pass to the N of the unlit cardinal buoy. At present there is 3m depth in the entrance, but on completion of the marina both entrances will have 4m and will have navigation lights, and the cardinal buoy will be removed.

Berth
The visitors' berths at Novigrad Marina are approached via the S entrance and are located on a pontoon in the SE part of the marina. The marina can accommodate yachts of up to 40m in length. It is also possible for yachts to berth bows to the inner side of the outer breakwater (lines have been laid), or pick up one of the yellow mooring buoys provided in this area or in the bay to the of the town. The pier is used by ferries and tripper boats. It is also the customs quay. There are depths of approximately 3.5m alongside the E face of this pier. Anchor Anchor in the N part of the bay, clear of the swimming area and the various buoys provided for visitors. The bottom is mainly sand, with patches of weed and stones farther in.
Shelter
The marina is totally sheltered, but the outer harbour and the anchorage are exposed to NW and W winds.
Officials
ovigrad is a summer port of entry. The formalities are completed at the customs post on the pier. The harbourmaster's office is at the root of this pier, across the road. Police.
Facilities
Water, electricity, petrol and diesel are available at the marina, which is open throughout the year. There is 4m alongside the fuel berth. The marina has luxurious toilets and showers, a health spa with indoor swimming pool, sauna and Turkish bath, laundry facilities, restaurant, exchange office, slipway, 80-ton travel hoist and repair facilities for engines and hulls. The approach to Novigrad from northwest Shops in the town include supermarkets, baker and butcher. Wine shop, E of the inner harbour, selling excellent local wines from the barrel. Fruit and vegetable market, banks, ATMs, Post Office, telephones, medical centre and pharmacy. Tourist information, hotels, restaurants, cafe/bars. Bus service to Rijeka, Zagreb, Ljubljana, as well as to local destinations. Taxis, car and bicycle hire. Novigrad is a good centre from which to take a trip to the fortified hilltop town of Motovun.
