44°32'-2N 14°28'E Charts BA 202, 1426 (detailed), MK 8, lmray M24 Mali Losinj is a pleasant and attractive town with excellent facilities. It is situated at the S end of a large natural harbour, which is considered one of the most sheltered havens in this part of the Adriatic. With a fetch of 3M, however, the visitors' pontoons in the harbour can be uncomfortable in strong NW winds. The town quays (on the N side) are not ideal for yachts, being very low. There is a risk of having the boat damaged if lying alongside the quay. The marina, which is secure if uncomfortable under certain circumstances, is just outside the town.

Approach

The natural harbour of Luka Mali Losinj is entered between Rt Torunza to the N and Rt Kriz to the S. Do not pass too close to either headland because of shallow spits extending off them into the channel. Anchoring is prohibited in the N part of Luka Mali Losinj, Uvala Kovcanja. The marina and town lie at the SE end of Luka Mali Losinj. It is possible to enter Luka Mali Losinj through an artificial canal, the Prolaz Privlaka, lying to the N of the marina. The canal connects the E side of the island with the main harbour. It is spanned by a road bridge, which opens at 0900 and 1800 hours. The canal is 3m deep and 6m wide. There are no dangers in the approach to the canal from the E side of the island, but note, that in strong N winds there is no shelter at the canal entrance. There is a shallow channel into Mali Losinj harbour S of 0. Koludarc, with depths of just over 1m.

Officials

Year-round port of entry. Customs and police officials are based at the marina. If you wish to clear customs, tie up at the customs quay in the NW corner of the marina. The harbourmaster's office is on the town quay near the ferry berths. Weather forecasts are posted at the harbourmaster's office.

Facilities

Water and electricity have been laid onto the visitors' pontoons in the main harbour and are available at the marina. Water is also available from b<nh fuel berths, but there is a charge for it. There are two fuel berths in Mali Losinj harbour. The first is close to the marina, W of the canal entrance. The second fuel berth is located on the SW shore of the harbour The fuel berth in the north east part of the harbour of Mali Losinj is close to the marina and the entrance to the canal connecting to the east side of the island opposite the ferry berths. There are depths of 3.5m alongside the fuel quay. The fuel berths can be very busy, so it is best to be there first thing in the morning, or at lunchtime. There is a wide choice of food shops in the town, including supermarkets (one near the fuel berth), butchers, bakers, fruit and vegetable market, fish market. Banks, ATMs, Post Office, internet cafe, telephones. Veterinary surgeon, hospital, dentist, pharmacy. Hardware shops and chandlers, plumbers' merchant. Laundry N of the old town on Veloselska Cesta, opposite a fuel station. Showers in a building down a lane SE of the harbour. Diving centre at Luka Cikat. Tourist information, hotels, restaurants, cafe/bars. Interisland ferry service. Bus service to villages on Losinj and Cres, as well as to Rijeka on the mainland. The marina offers the following services: water, electricity, showers, toilets, restaurant, bar, diving service, repairs to hull and machinery, 3-ton crane, 16 and 35-ton travel-lifts, 60-ton slipway, winter storage facilities. The marina is a service agent for Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Yamaha, Johnson, Mercury and Tomos. The marina will hold mail. It is open throughout the year. Repairs to hull, machinery, sails and electrical/electronic installations can be undertaken.
