44°12'-5N 12°24'.2E Charts BA 220, 204, 7 467 Cesenatico is another river port with a large fishing fleet. The town has been developed as a tourist resort, and a marina built for waterborne tourists. If you are interested in traditional sailing craft you should not miss visiting Cesenatico. There is a unique floating display of traditional Adriatic sailing vessels at the maritime museum. situated at the 5.1 Italy: Slovenia to Ancona upriver end of the harbour. It is possible to go on board some of the craft. The canal port was designed by Leonardo da Vinci.
Approach
There are mussel beds (indicated by a light buoy) about 2M off the coast near Cesenatico. Cesenatico can be recognised by an unusual skyscraper about 4 cables S of the harbour entrance. This skyscraper has about thirty storeys and is conspicuous from some distance offshore. In the closer approach the white circular tower of the lighthouse situated at the root of the E breakwater is apparent. Detached groynes protect the beaches to the S of the town and should not be mistaken for harbour walls. The entrance to Cesenatico harbour lies between two breakwaters, which have lights on their ends. We found depths of 3.5m in the entrance, but silting can reduce the depths in the channel considerably. Shallow depths extend some distance offshore, and no attempt should be made to enter or leave the harbour in strong onshore winds. The entrance to the yacht basin and marina lies inside the river port, just SW of the lighthouse.

Berth
Although this is an extremely busy fishing port we were able to find a berth alongside the quay just upstream of the entrance to the marina. Farther upstream fishing boats line both quays and if you penetrate this far looking for a berth you may have difficulty in turning around. A yacht club and a separate marina are situated in well-protected basins on the W side of the harbour. It may be possible to find space at the yacht club. A berth will certainly be available at the marina. If entering the marina, beware of the swing bridge, which spans the passage between the yacht basin and marina. Berth as directed by officials of the respective establishments. The marina can accommodate yachts of up to 20m in length, and the yacht club yachts of up to 16m.
Shelter
The marina and yacht club berths enjoy excellent allround shelter. The outer part of the public harbour can be uncomfortable in strong winds from NE or E.

Water and electricity at the marina and the yacht club berths. Water is also available from quayside taps for which you need a hose pipe. Toilets and showers. Petrol and diesel from the fuel berth on the S corner of the basin leading off to the E of the river. Camping Gaz. Italian gas and paraffin from the Agip shop near the floating display of the maritime museum. Supermarkets, grocery stores, butchers, bakers, fruit and vegetable market, fish market. Post Office, banks, ATMs. Telephones. Doctors, dentists, pharmacies, hospital, first-aid post. This is a holiday resort as well as a fishing port, and it is well supplied with hotels, restaurants and cafe/bars. Bus service. Car hire and taxis. Railway station. There are a number of workshops, where repairs to engines, electrical/electronic installations and sails can be undertaken. Repairs to the hull can also be organised.
