Approach
There are no dangers in the immediate vicinity of the harbour apart from some rocky outcrops close to the shore both E and W of the harbour. The large fortified house or castle at the harbour, surrounded by trees, helps identify the village. The pier, with a flagpole on the end, becomes obvious in the nearer approach.
Berth
Tie up alongside the E pier (see plan). Depths alongside range from 2m to 4m. The inner part of the harbour is shallow.
Shelter
Alongside the quay there is shelter from W through N to SE.
Facilities
In the village are several grocery shops and butchers. Daily fruit and vegetable market. Fresh fish is occasionally sold near the harbour. Post Office and telephones. Bank and ATM. Tourist information office. Pharmacy on the main road. Hotel, restaurants and cafe/bars. Bus service (Split-Trogir).
History
There are two castles on the coast at Kastel Luksic. The castle overlooking the harbour is known as 'Dobrila's castle' and was built in about 1487 by the Vitturi family. The other castle lies to the W of Luksic and is known as 'Miljenko's castle'. Dobrila and Miljenko fell in love despite the enmity of their families. When their parents found out Miljenko was sent away to Venice by his father. Whilst Miljenko was in Venice Dobrila's father arranged her marriage to an old nobleman. When Miljenko found out about this he returned to prevent the marriage. In fury Dobrila's father sent her to the convent at Trogir and Miljenko, who had tried to stop this, was exiled to a monastery. Dobrila escaped from the convent and went to join Miljenko. Eventually the parents decided to allow the young couple to marry, but after the wedding feast Dobrila's father killed Miljenko. Dobrila died shortly afterwards of grief. The lovers are allegedly buried together in the chapel near Miljenko's castle. Kastel Stari and Kastel Novi
