Approach

Giulianova can be identified by a conspicuous motorway viaduct with 29 piers to the NW of the town, and by a reddish cupola surmounted by a The Molo Sud has been renamed Strada di Jonathan Livingston and is lined with a series of modern sculptures belvedere in the town on the hill above the harbour. The Admiralty Pilot says that the principal town square with a statue is also prominent, but in fact this is not so easily seen. There are no dangers in the immediate approach. When entering the harbour keep a good distance from the ends of the moles to avoid underwater ballasting. Be-ware of depths in the entrance being less than the 4.5m charted as this harbour is subject to silting. Entry can be extremely difficult in strong onshore winds or swell.

Berth

Tie up alongside the N mole amongst the fishing boats, but check that where you tie up is clear of an underwater ledge. Alternatively, go bow-to the S mole. Ballasting extends underwater along the whole length of this mole, preventing vessels from lying alongside, and calling for caution when taking bow lines ashore. It may be possible to berth at one of the yacht club pontoons, in the SW corner of the harbour. Anchor In a convenient depth clear of the pontoons and fishing boats. The bottom is sand, or mud and sand in the N part of the harbour.

Shelter

Good shelter from all but strong winds from NW, N, and NE, which send a surge into the harbour.

Harbourmaster's office is located on the SW side of the harbour. Police in the town.

Water and electricity at the yacht club pontoons. Toilets and showers at the root of the Molo Sud, behind the sailing club. Water is laid onto the N fishing boat quay, but a certain amount of ingenuity is required if you wish to fill containers! Fuel berth next to the travel hoist dock on the SW quay. Fuel is available between 0800 and 1200. Outside of these hours contact the number given. Italian gas and Camping Gaz. A good selection of shops in the town. History

There has been a settlement at Giulianova since before the Romans. The town has been called by various names, but it acquired its present name from Duke Giulio Antonio Acquaviva. Duke Giulio rebuilt and fortified the town in a healthier situation on the hill above the harbour.
