Approach

Chioggia can be approached from seaward via any one of the three entrances into the Laguna Veneta The Canaletta Morin is operated by the Sporting Club Marina Visitors are welcome at Darsena Mosella, a small marina at Sotomarina Lido, close east of Chioggia Sporting Club Marina at Chioggia has been built on the north side of the Diga della Saline, the breakwater which protects Chioggia harbour. The marina entrance (the lights are just visible beyond the power boats) is close to the quays used by ships described above in the section dealing with Venice and the Laguna Veneta. Coming from S the most direct approach is via Porto di Chioggia entrance. Do not approach the heads of the breakwaters too closely because of underwater rocks. From the sea entrance the approach to the public harbour and to the marina berths for yachts in transit lies to the S, along a channel marked by buoys and posts, as shown in the diagram. Beware of ships anchored in the area of deep water between the entrance and the public harbour.

Lights

The lights marking the entrance from seaward are described above in the section dealing with the approaches to Venice and the Laguna Veneta. The outer harbour breakwater has a F.Y light shown from a white concrete tower, and there is a F.R light shown from a red metal post on the harbour quay to the SE. The lights on the heads of the breakwaters at Sporting Club Marina de Chioggia are Fl.R.5s4M and Fl.G.5s4M.

Berth

The two main options for visitors to Chioggia are in Canaletta Morin (operated by the Sporting Club Marina di Chioggia) and in Darsena Mosella at Sotomarina. It may also be possible to berth temporarily in the Canale Lombardo, the main canal leading from the outer harbour (Bacino di Vigo) into the town. The Canale Lombardo is reserved for the fishing fleet, but a temporary berth alongside the E bank may be available whilst you go shopping. The Sporting Club Marina di Chioggia has a large marina N of the wall, Diga della Saline, which protects the Bacino Vigo. The visitors' berths however are in Canaletta Morin, a basin lying on the W side of the Bacino Vigo, just off the Canale Lombardo. Darsena Mosella is a friendly marina, which can accommodate yachts of up to 18m, located E of Chioggia at Sottomarina Lido. The approach to Canaletta Morin and Darsena Mosella is best seen from the plan.

Shelter

Good shelter is available, depending on the berth chosen.

Officials

Harbourmaster, customs and police.

The marina addresses are: Darsena Masella, via S. Felice 3, 30019 Sottomarina Lido (Venezia), Italy "B' (041) 404993 Sporting Club Marina di Chioggia, Isola Morin 2, 30015 Chioggia (Venezia) "B' (041) 400530. The Po delta Charts BA 204, 7467 There are a number of shallow ports on the various river mouths of the Po delta as well as a few marinas within the area. One marina, Marina Albarella, has been built on the S side of Isola Albarella in approximate position 45°03'.6N l2°21'.5E. The coast in this area is very low-lying, and shallow depths extend for some distance out to sea. The entrances to the various ports and marinas can therefore be difficult to locate, and the approach channels are constantly changing because of silting. In general we do not recommend that you try to enter any of these ports without up-to-date local guidance. Certainly, you should be nowhere near this area in strong onshore winds. Porto Garibaldi
