General

45°29'N 12°25"E Charts BA 1483 (but Burano is only just on this chart) Burano is a pleasant picturesque island with gaily painted houses, canals spanned by bridges, and the famous church with its leaning belfry. It is very much a living community with its own primary school, the 18th century. Handmade lace mats and tablecloths are sold at reasonable prices. Burano is connected to Isola Mazzorbo to the W by a footbridge.

Approach

Burano can be approached via Murano and various other canals, but the most straightforward approach is made by following Canale di Treporti past Marina di Lio Grando, and then taking the first turning to the left. This brings you on to the Canale di Burano. Cable BURANO

Berth

It is possible to anchor to one side of the main channel to the N of the island, using anchors from bow and stern to keep you parallel to the channel. Ensur that you anchor clear of any underwater cables. Yachts with a shallower draught can anchor in a similar fashion at the edge of one of the side channels, to the S of the island. Bear in mind that at low water there can be lm and less depth. Wherever you anchor an anchor light is essential. The bottom is mud. It may also be possible to find space in the small fishing basin on the N side of the island. Land by dinghy at various points, including going up one of the canals through the 'town'.

Facilities

Several public water dispensers in the 'town', including one near the ferry berth. Petrol and diesel from the fuel berth on the NE side of the island. Paraffin is sold in 20-litre containers at one of the shops on the main square. There are a number of small grocery shops on Burano selling all essential provisions, as well as a baker, butcher, hardware store, pharmacy, hairdresser, bank, Post Office, and public telephones.
