Portic Beach, Croatia
Portic Beach, located in the village of Peroj on the Istrian coast of Croatia, is a sheltered cove measuring 310 meters long and 10 meters wide. The beach is characterized by its beige pebble surface, which contrasts with the rocky seabed composed of large boulders. While the gradual depth increase makes it a moderate swimming spot, visitors have noted the ease of entering the water from the shoreline. The beach is particularly notable for its dog-friendly policies, with designated areas and facilities for pets, making it a popular destination for travelers with animals.
Beach character
The beach’s natural features include a compact cove shape, with the majority of the shoreline covered in beige pebbles. The seabed, however, is marked by large boulders, which may pose challenges for swimmers or those with mobility concerns. Depth increases gradually, avoiding abrupt changes that could create hazards. This geological composition contributes to the beach’s unique character, blending natural ruggedness with accessible shoreline features.
Swimming and shore
Swimming conditions at Portic Beach are generally favorable, with moderate depth progression allowing for safe entry into the water. Reviewers have highlighted the ease of wading into the sea, though some have noted the lack of jetties or steps for easier access. The clear water quality, frequently mentioned in visitor comments, enhances the appeal of the beach for swimming and snorkeling. The rocky seabed, while unsuitable for certain activities, adds to the beach’s natural charm.
Facilities and activities
No formal amenities are listed for Portic Beach, but visitors have reported the availability of free parking nearby. The beach is associated with cycling, as noted in the catalog, though no rental services or dedicated cycling paths are mentioned. A nearby beach bar is frequently referenced in reviews, suggesting informal dining options for visitors. Dog owners will find designated areas and a pet shower, though one reviewer noted the absence of poop bag dispensers.
Access and location
Portic Beach is accessible via roads leading to the village of Peroj, with free parking available near the shoreline. Its location on the Istrian Peninsula places it within reach of other coastal attractions, including marinas and anchorages in the broader Adriatic sailing network. The beach’s proximity to Peroj, a small settlement with local services, makes it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the region.
What visitors say
Visitors consistently praise Portic Beach for its dog-friendly policies, clear waters, and accessible parking. One reviewer described it as "one of the most beautiful and spacious dog beaches in this part of Istria," while another noted the presence of grassy areas and shaded spots for pets. However, some feedback highlights the need for improved infrastructure, such as jetties for easier water access. The beach’s cleanliness is generally rated as good, though no formal facilities like showers or restrooms are listed.
Practical tips
Visitors with dogs should use the designated beach areas and follow local signage. While free parking is available, spaces may be limited during peak season. The absence of poop bag dispensers is a noted gap in facilities, so bringing supplies is advisable. The rocky seabed may make swimming less comfortable for some, but the gradual depth progression ensures a generally safe experience.

Reviews
Very nice beach. Easy to go into the water. Many place to free parking. And clear water. Also a beach bar is nearby.
A must with you dog: one of the most beautiful and spacious dog beaches in this part of Istria, white gravel beach, clear water, free parking, several bars.
Nice pebbly bay with mini marina for local small boats, dogs allowed, but not easy to enter water. Why not build a few small jetties with steps for easy in and out of water?
Probably the best dog beach we’ve been to during our stay in Croatia. You can park the car next to the beach. Dogs are very welcome. There are pebbles but also some area with grass and shade, a shower for dogs is provided, too. Poop bag dispenser is missing though. frank “
