Porat Beach, Croatia
Beach character
The beach's natural features include a straight shoreline flanked by cliffs that offer natural shade. The sea floor consists of pebbles, and the depth increases gradually, creating a safe environment for swimmers of all abilities. The sandy section near the shore is narrower but provides a softer experience for beachgoers. The presence of pine wood areas further enhances the beach's appeal by offering shaded spots for relaxation. However, the beach's cleanliness index is rated as poor, a fact reflected in some visitor comments about maintenance.Swimming and shore
Swimming conditions at Porat Beach are generally favorable due to the smooth depth increase, making it a family-friendly option. The pebbly seabed may require caution for those unaccustomed to such surfaces, though the transition to sandy areas near the shore softens the experience. The beach's natural topography, including cliffs and pine woodlands, creates a varied shoreline that offers both open views and sheltered spots. The water's temperature and clarity are not explicitly detailed in the catalog, but visitor reviews mention the water being 'a little cold' during August visits.Facilities and activities
Facilities at Porat Beach are limited to two on-site restaurants, which serve seafood and other local dishes. Reviews highlight both the quality of food and the higher-than-expected prices, with one visitor noting a croissant costing €3. No showers, restrooms, or parking facilities are mentioned in the catalog, though a toilet with water and soap is referenced in a 2021 review. The beach supports activities such as stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), surfing, and snorkeling, making it a destination for water sports enthusiasts.Access and location
Porat Beach is situated in the village of Porat, a coastal settlement in Croatia. The beach is accessible via local boat services, including country boat transfers from Komiza, which operate for €50 round-trip. The exact road access is not specified in the catalog, but the beach's location near Komiza suggests proximity to regional ferry routes and coastal roads. Its coordinates (45.12593, 14.47953) place it within the broader Adriatic sailing network, though no specific marinas or anchorage points are listed for the immediate area. What visitors say
Visitor reviews present a mixed picture of Porat Beach. Positive feedback emphasizes the sandy shoreline, natural shade, and the availability of two restaurants serving seafood. One reviewer called it 'the best beach in Croatia,' while others praised the family-friendly environment and the pine wood areas for shade. Negative comments focus on the beach's cleanliness and restaurant pricing, with one visitor noting the 'poor' maintenance level. A 2024 review highlighted the beach's 'exceptional' quality, though another mentioned the water temperature as 'a little cold.' The beach's suitability for travelers with dogs is noted, with signs directing pet owners to dedicated areas.Practical tips
Visitors should note the beach's limited facilities, including the absence of showers or restrooms beyond the toilet with water and soap mentioned in reviews. The two on-site restaurants are a key feature but may require budgeting for higher prices. The smooth depth increase is ideal for families with young children, and the natural shade from cliffs and pine woodlands offers respite from direct sunlight. Those planning to visit via boat should inquire about the country boat service from Komiza, which is explicitly referenced in reviews.Exploring the coast by yacht
Porat Beach's location in the Adriatic Sea places it within a region popular with yacht charter guests. While the beach itself is not a marina or anchorage, its proximity to Komiza—a known sailing hub—suggests potential for yacht-based visits. The surrounding area includes other beaches and coastal landmarks that may interest sailors exploring the Croatian coast. For detailed yacht availability and sailing itineraries, visitors are directed to Euro-Agent's Yacht Search page, which includes options for motor and sail boats operating in the region.Historical and Cultural Context
Porat is a small village with limited historical documentation, but its coastal location aligns with the broader Dalmatian tradition of maritime activity. Reviews
Beautiful place with sandy beach and two restaurants.
Beautiful beach, nice sand, a little of bit cold water. The prices at the restaurant are expensive. A croissant 3€ for example.
Best beach in Croatia! It is sandy until few meters outside of water and then and then rocky, with a lot of shade. There is a toilet with water and soap, clean. On it there are two restaurants that serve nice food. You definitely need to go here after the Modra spilja. The country boat service from Komiza can get you here and back for 50kn.
Beautiful sandy beach. It was not too crowdy, kids enjoyed every minute. Beach is clean, there are 2 places where you can eat and drink. And pine wood when you want to stay away from the sun
Small, sandy beach with a lot of shade. There are two restaurants that serve mostly fish / seafood. Split-Dalmatia
