Podstine II Beach, Croatia

12 photos

Podstine II Beach lies in a sheltered cove along Croatia's Dalmatian coast, framed by rugged mountain slopes and the Adriatic Sea. Measuring 220 meters in length with a width of 20 meters, this pebbled beach offers a unique contrast to the region's more common sandy shores. The beige pebbles extend gradually into the sea, with depth increasing moderately beyond the shoreline. Its location within a bay provides natural protection from open-sea swells, making it a consistent choice for leisure visitors seeking calm waters.

Overview of Podstine II beach

Beach character

The beach's defining feature is its dramatic coastal setting. Beige pebbles cover the shoreline, transitioning to rocky substrates further out. The surrounding landscape is dominated by mountainous terrain, creating a striking visual contrast with the azure sea. While the beach itself lacks formal amenities, its natural character appeals to visitors seeking authenticity. The moderate depth increase allows for safe wading, though swimmers should remain mindful of the pebbled bottom.

Swimming and shore

The pebbled shore requires sturdy footwear for comfortable access. The sea floor remains predominantly pebbles beyond the immediate shoreline, with depth increasing gradually. While the beach is suitable for leisure swimming, the rocky terrain may limit opportunities for extended water activities. The moderate depth profile makes it accessible for most swimmers, though those seeking sandy beaches may prefer neighboring options.

Facilities and activities

Podstine II Beach does not have formal amenities such as showers, restrooms, or lifeguard services. However, the nearby hotel complex offers diving rental services, reflecting the area's underwater appeal. Visitors should note that the beach itself lacks infrastructure, with access dependent on the hotel's facilities. The absence of direct amenities makes it a destination best paired with nearby accommodations.

Access and location

Access to the beach is primarily via the adjacent hotel complex, which provides direct shoreline access. The beach lies within a short walking distance from the center of Hvar, with a scenic coastal road connecting the two. This positioning makes it a convenient stop for visitors exploring the island, though the lack of direct public transportation requires reliance on private vehicles or hotel transfers.

What visitors say

Visitors have consistently highlighted the beach's scenic beauty and the quality of the adjacent hotel. One reviewer noted the 'magical view from the terrace, especially at sunset,' while another praised the 'crystal clear water' and 'free, comfortable sunbeds.' However, some guests have mentioned the hotel's aging infrastructure, with one visitor stating '4 stars is only cause of rooms which are on low standard.' The beach itself receives positive mentions for its 'beautiful bay' and 'quiet place,' though the high season crowd level suggests it may become busy during peak months.

Practical tips

Visitors should expect a pebbled shoreline requiring appropriate footwear. The beach's popularity during high season means arriving early may secure better sunbed placement. While the beach lacks direct amenities, the adjacent hotel offers essential services. Those seeking a more developed beach experience may want to consider nearby options with sandy shores.

Exploring the coast by yacht

For yacht charter guests exploring the Hvar region, Podstine II Beach offers a scenic anchorage point within easy reach of the island's marinas. The surrounding coast features several sailing routes connecting to Supetar, Stari Grad, and the broader Dalmatian coastline. While the beach itself is not a formal marina, its proximity to Hvar's harbor makes it a convenient stop for sailors seeking a natural beach experience alongside their charter itinerary.

Adjacent Hotel Complex

The beach is closely associated with a hotel complex that provides essential services for visitors. While the hotel's infrastructure is described as 'old fashioned' in some reviews, it maintains clean rooms with air conditioning and offers a choice of dining options. Great food , super beach, 4 stars is only cause of rooms which are on low standard.

For me, a phenomenal choice of hotel, although it is old fashioned and probably needs renovation by today's guest standards, but the rooms are clean, have air conditioning, everything works and I had no complaints. In a quiet place, in a beautiful bay, with crystal clear water. Sunbeds are free and comfortable. The hotel staff is pleasant, cultured and always at your service. The view from the terrace is magical, especially at sunset. The food is excellent, you have a choice of several very tasty dishes. There is a beautiful road from the hotel by the sea to the center of Hvar, you need about 15-20 minutes of easy walking. Considering the price of the hotel, which is more than favorable, in my opinion, this is the best choice for a vacation in Hvar. Split-Dalmatia
