Plaza Kraljev Gaj Beach, Croatia
Beach character
The beach's defining feature is its compact cove shape, framed by rugged terrain that provides natural shelter. The pebble composition, while not ideal for barefoot walking, contributes to the beach's distinctive character. Depth increases moderately as one moves away from the shore, making it suitable for swimmers of varying abilities. The landscape is described in reviews as 'picturesque,' with recurring mentions of pine trees and the interplay between land and sea creating a visually striking environment.Swimming and shore
Swimmers should note the pebble-covered shore, which may require caution when entering and exiting the water. The sea floor extends in small pebbles, and depth increases gradually. While no structured amenities exist along the beach itself, the surrounding area includes pine trees that offer partial shade. Reviews indicate the water quality is generally better than nearby crowded beaches, though this can vary seasonally.Facilities and activities
There are no official facilities reported at the beach itself. Visitor reviews mention a parking area located approximately 20 minutes' walk away along a path that can be steep in certain sections. No structured activities are listed, though the beach's natural setting lends itself to relaxation, photography, and informal exploration of the adjacent cliffs.Access and location
The beach is accessible via a walking path from the parking area, with reviews noting the 20-minute trek. The route includes a steep section from the hillside, which may pose challenges for young children or those with mobility limitations. Alternative access along the beach is mentioned in one review but not clearly mapped. The beach lies within the municipality of Tučepi, approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Makarska and 30 kilometers southeast of Split. What visitors say
Visitors consistently highlight the beach's natural beauty and seclusion, with one reviewer calling it a 'hidden gem' offering 'untouched beauty' and 'serene atmosphere.' The beach's historical association with nudist culture is noted in multiple reviews, though recent visitors report a more mixed presence with 'normal families' also using the area. One family mentioned an 'unpleasant' encounter with nudity while visiting with children, while others emphasized the beach's tranquility and privacy compared to nearby destinations.
The beach's cleanliness is frequently praised, with one reviewer noting 'water cleaner than other crowded beaches around.' However, the high season crowd level is acknowledged, with one visitor describing it as 'busy' during peak times. The combination of natural scenery and relative seclusion makes it a recurring choice for those seeking an alternative to more commercialized coastlines.
Practical tips
Visitors should be prepared for a 20-minute walk from the parking area, with some sections of the path being steep. Comfortable footwear is recommended. Those sensitive to nudity may wish to check the beach's current atmosphere before visiting, as historical nudist associations persist in some reports. The beach's pebble composition may require caution when entering the water.

Perfect nudist beach. Seen some textiles there, but they behave and normally don t stop at this beach for long. Can be busy at daytime, but still plenty of room under the pine trees.
This cosy beach is very nice, water cleaner than other crowded beaches around. But it is in NUDIST territory! We did not know it and visited it with kids, quite unpleasant although the only nude couple was around the corner. The other families were normal ones. From Tucepi there are two ways: one coming from the hill side south-east is quite steep for kids, the other one along the beach not showed on map and going via nudist beach. Split-Dalmatia
