Petrina Beach, Croatia
Beach character
The beach's defining characteristic is its cove shape, sheltered by low-lying mountains that provide natural shade during the day. The seabed is covered in fine sand, with a smooth depth gradient that increases gradually—ideal for families with young children. The shoreline is marked by a mix of beige sand and dark pebbles, creating a textured contrast against the water. The beach's orientation and surrounding topography contribute to its relatively calm waters, though wave activity may increase during strong winds. The area is noted for its untouched natural environment, with minimal human development along the shoreline.Swimming and shore
The shallow, gradual depth increase makes Petrina Beach particularly suitable for swimmers of all abilities, including non-swimmers and children. The clear waters allow visibility to the seabed, enhancing safety for snorkelers and divers. The beach's sheltered position reduces wave impact, though visitors should be aware of potential currents during high tide. The absence of formal lifeguard services means swimmers should exercise caution, particularly during peak hours. The shoreline's natural features support activities like snorkeling, with opportunities to explore marine life in the shallow waters.Facilities and activities
No formal facilities are listed for Petrina Beach, though the natural environment supports several recreational activities. Kayaking and surfing are popular options, with the beach's sheltered cove providing favorable conditions for beginners. Snorkeling is particularly rewarding due to the clear waters and diverse marine life. The beach's proximity to hiking trails in the surrounding hills offers additional opportunities for exploration. Visitors are advised to bring their own equipment for these activities, as no rental services are indicated in the beach's records.Access and location
Petrina Beach is located in Risika, a small coastal village in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar region of Croatia. The beach is accessible via a gravel road that terminates at the base of a hill, requiring a 20-minute walk to reach the shoreline. This remote access contributes to the beach's seclusion, though visitors should be prepared for the uneven terrain. The area is part of a larger network of hiking trails in the Risika region, with viewpoints offering panoramic views of the Adriatic. Nearby, the village of Šilo provides access to additional beaches and cultural sites, including historic landmarks and local restaurants. What visitors say
Visitors consistently highlight Petrina Beach's seclusion and pristine condition. One reviewer noted, 'the fact that you have to walk about 20 minutes to get here makes it not busy at all,' with reports of being the only visitors on the beach for extended periods. Multiple reviews emphasize the 'crystal clear water' and 'untouched nature,' with one visitor describing it as 'the most beautiful wild beach.' However, the gravel road access and lack of formal amenities are frequently mentioned as considerations. Some visitors recommend climbing the nearby rock path for panoramic views, though the walk is described as moderately challenging.Practical tips
Consider bringing water for the 20-minute walk to the beach, as no refreshments are available at the shoreline. Use the information signs to identify pet-friendly areas, as the beach is noted for allowing dogs. The gravel road access may require a vehicle with high ground clearance. Visitors should be prepared for limited shade beyond the natural mountain cover and bring sun protection. The beach's seclusion means it's best suited for those seeking a quiet, uncrowded experience.Exploring the coast by yacht
For yacht charter guests exploring the northern Adriatic, Petrina Beach lies within the sailing routes connecting the Kvarner Gulf to the Istrian Peninsula. The nearby village of Risika offers limited marina options, but the surrounding coastline provides several anchorages suitable for motor yachts. Euro-Agent's yacht search platform can help identify vessels available for charter in this region, with options ranging from motor yachts to sailing boats. The beach's location makes it a potential stop for sailors seeking a secluded shore excursion, though no formal docking facilities are available at the beach itself.Regional Context and Hiking Opportunities
The Risika region is part of Croatia's Primorje-Gorski Kotar area, known for its rugged coastline and dense forests. Hiking trails in the vicinity offer access to viewpoints with sweeping views of the Adriatic Sea. The nearby village of Šilo, mentioned in visitor reviews, is a cultural hub with historic landmarks and local cuisine options. The region's natural beauty and limited tourism infrastructure make it a destination for those seeking authentic coastal experiences.

Reviews
i love beautiful beaches that are private and quiet, this is one! water is crystal clear and the fact taht you have to walk about 20 minutes to get here makes it not busy at all! when we got here we were the only people on the beach for a good 2 hours. don't drive here, stop where the houses end otherwise you'll definitely get stuck on teh gravel road unless you drive like a defender or something in that range.
My friends and I visited šilo at the end of the summer season last year(September 2017), and on one of our days there, I decided to take a walk to this beautiful beach. It was definately a great choice! The walk took me a little over an hour(medium pace), and when I finally reached the beach, I had it all to myself. I am certainly a nature lover and enjoyed every moment of it. It was very clean and very peaceful there. When there, I would recommend to climb the rock path that goes up the hill, and I promise you will love with the view!
The most beautiful wild beach 😘 Cristal clear water and untouched nature. ☀👌💛💙💜💚 Primorje-Gorski Kotar
