Paradiso Beach - Smokvica, Croatia
Beach character
Paradiso Beach is a small cove measuring approximately 10 meters in width, with a shoreline composed of beige pebbles. The beach is flanked by mountainous landscapes, creating a striking contrast between the rugged terrain and the pebbled shore. The sea floor slopes gently with moderate depth increase, making it suitable for cautious swimmers. According to visitor reports, the water is described as 'calm and crystal clear,' though some areas near the back of the beach show signs of storm-deposited trash. The beach's low crowd index during high season suggests it remains largely undisturbed, appealing to those seeking solitude.Swimming and shore
The pebbled shore of Paradiso Beach presents a mixed experience for swimmers. While the immediate coastline is navigable, the rough terrain near the beach entrance may require sturdy footwear. The sea is noted for its clarity, with one reviewer describing it as 'crystal clear.' However, the presence of scattered trash in the back areas of the beachβreported by multiple visitorsβhighlights the need for environmental stewardship. The moderate depth increase allows for cautious swimming, though the pebbles may make prolonged stays on the shore uncomfortable for some.Facilities and activities
Paradiso Beach lacks formal amenities, with no showers, restrooms, or parking facilities reported. The primary activities associated with the beach are hiking and fishing. The challenging landward access route, described as a 'long way over rough terrain,' is a natural barrier that deters casual visitors but rewards those seeking solitude. Fishing is possible from the beach, as noted by one reviewer, though the lack of infrastructure means anglers must bring their own equipment. Hiking trails in the surrounding mountains provide additional opportunities for exploration, though the exact routes are not specified in the catalog.Access and location
Access to Paradiso Beach is primarily via a 400-meter path from the nearest paved road, which requires navigating rough terrain. This route is considered 'extremely difficult' without proper footwear, as noted by a visitor. Alternatively, the beach is accessible from the sea, making it a potential stop for sailors exploring the Smokvica coastline. The beach is located in the municipality of Smokvica, near the Dubrovnik-Neretva region, an area known for its scenic Adriatic routes. While no specific marinas are mentioned in the catalog, the proximity to the Neretva River and surrounding coastal villages may offer nearby anchorage options for yachts. What visitors say
Reviewers describe Paradiso Beach as a 'hidden place' with a 'tranquil' atmosphere. One visitor noted the beach was 'empty for the whole day,' while another highlighted the absence of 'garbage' despite the remote location. However, challenges include the arduous landward access and scattered trash in the back areas. A reviewer from August 2023 remarked, 'We were alone for the whole day, without being disturbed by anybody,' emphasizing the beach's potential for solitude. Conversely, another visitor warned, 'Dangerous without good shoes,' underscoring the need for preparedness.Practical tips
Bring sturdy footwear for the rocky path to the beach. Carry a trash bag to help maintain the beach's cleanliness. Consider using a paddleboard or kayak for easier access to the shoreline. Be aware of scattered trash in the back areas and avoid disturbing wildlife or natural features.Exploring the coast by yacht
For sailors exploring the Dubrovnik-Neretva region, Paradiso Beach represents a secluded anchorage option. Its remote location and lack of formal marinas make it suitable for those seeking undisturbed sailing experiences. The nearby Neretva River and coastal villages may offer additional docking opportunities, though specific marina details are not provided in the catalog. Yacht charterers in the area might find Paradiso Beach a rewarding destination for day trips or overnight stays, particularly for those prioritizing solitude over convenience.Cultural and Regional Context
Smokvica is part of the Dubrovnik-Neretva region, an area rich in medieval history and natural beauty. The nearby town of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers cultural attractions such as the Rector's Palace and Fort Lovrijenac. The region's coastline is dotted with smaller villages and hidden coves, making it a popular destination for yacht charters and land-based exploration.Anchorages in the surrounding area

Reviews
Great place. Access from the land is possible, but extremely difficult. Dangerous without good shoes. 400 meters of slogging along the path down from the paved road. You can go to the beach and there is also a place for fishing. Surprisingly, there was no garbage.
Great place accessible from the sea A little bit of garbage takes just 5 minutes to clean up
Nice hidden place, some trash in the back part of the narrow beach, partly deposited by storm waves. If you stay on the beach near coastline, trash is not a problem. Sea is calm and crystal clear. We came on a paddleboard. No problem with insect was observed. We were alone for the whole day, without being disturbed by anybody, having the whole place for ourselves. Dubrovnik-Neretva
