Nugal Beach II, Makarska: A Unique Coastal Experience in Croatia
Beach character
The beach’s defining feature is its composition: a narrow strip of beige pebbles, with no sand present. The seabed continues this pattern, covered in medium-sized stones that may pose challenges for young children or those unaccustomed to such terrain. A sharp drop-off into deeper water occurs near the shore, creating a sudden transition from shallow to open sea. This characteristic, while potentially daunting, contributes to the beach’s appeal for snorkelers exploring the clear waters. The surrounding landscape is dominated by cliffs and mountainous terrain, offering panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and the town of Makarska below.Swimming and shore
Swimming conditions are shaped by the beach’s pebbly shore and abrupt depth increase. The water is clear and suitable for snorkeling, but the lack of sand and sudden drop-off may limit comfort for some swimmers. The beach’s orientation as a straight shore allows for unobstructed views of the horizon, though the absence of natural shelter means sun protection is essential. The pebbles, while not ideal for prolonged sunbathing, provide a stable surface for those who prefer to walk along the shore.Facilities and activities
There are no formal amenities listed for Nugal Beach II, though visitor reports mention the presence of changing facilities and a nearby restaurant. Activities centered around the beach include snorkeling, which benefits from the clear waters, and water-based entertainment options. The beach’s location near Makarska also allows access to the town’s broader offerings, including dining and cultural sites.Access and location
Nugal Beach II is situated in Makarska, a coastal town on the Dalmatian coast known for its historic Old Town and vibrant maritime culture. The beach is accessible via Marineta ulica, a local road that connects to Makarska’s main thoroughfares. Nearby, the Osejava Forest Park offers a contrasting green landscape, as noted by visitors who have photographed the beach from elevated viewpoints. The area’s integration with the broader Makarska Riviera means that yacht charter guests can easily explore the region’s other beaches, marinas, and cultural landmarks. What visitors say
Reviewers consistently highlight Nugal Beach II’s scenic beauty and the quality of its sunset views, with one visitor describing it as a "great spot for sunset." The beach’s proximity to Osejava Forest Park has also drawn praise, with photos taken from the forest’s elevated trails capturing the coastline’s dramatic contours. However, several reviews note the beach’s crowded conditions during peak season and the limited availability of shaded areas. One visitor described the beach as "quite crowded with limited shady areas," while another mentioned the abrupt depth increase as a factor to consider for swimmers.Practical tips
Visitors should bring sunscreen and a towel to accommodate the pebbly surface. The beach’s sharp depth increase means swimmers should exercise caution, particularly with young children. While the beach is nudist-friendly, visitors are advised to respect local customs. The lack of formal amenities means bringing personal items such as water or snacks is recommended.Exploring the coast by yacht
For yacht charter guests, the Makarska Riviera offers a range of sailing opportunities, with Nugal Beach II situated near the town’s marinas and anchorages. The clear waters and proximity to the coast make it a convenient stop for those exploring the Dalmatian coast. However, the beach itself is not an anchorage, and visitors are encouraged to consult Euro-Agent’s yacht search page for detailed information on nearby marinas and sailing routes.Osejava Forest Park: A Scenic Vantage Point
Visitors have photographed Nugal Beach II from the elevated trails of Osejava Forest Park, offering a unique perspective of the coastline. The park’s greenery contrasts with the beach’s rugged terrain, creating a visually striking combination.
Best Times to Visit
While the beach is popular during peak season, visitors who prefer a less crowded experience may consider visiting outside of July and August. The beach’s natural features remain consistent year-round, though water temperatures may affect swimming comfort.

Great spot for sunset
Nice looking beach. Photos taken from above the beach, in Osejava forest park.
Stopped by Makarska for lunch and a quick swim on a summer day. Great place to relax, soak up the sun, and enjoy some fantastic views. Changing facilities and a restaurant are available.
Small pebbly beach with clear water. Quite crowded with limited shady areas. Water gets deep very fast. Amazing views of the city and mountains. Split-Dalmatia
