Lopata Beach - Verunić, Croatia
Beach character
The beach's defining feature is its rugged, multi-cove structure, with two distinct sections separated by a narrow headland. The shoreline is composed of white pebbles, creating a textured surface that contrasts with the clear, pebble-strewn seabed. Depth increases moderately, making it suitable for swimmers and snorkelers. The landscape is marked by dramatic cliffs and vegetation, contributing to the area's 'picturesque view' as noted in the catalog. While the beach lacks formal amenities, its natural setting and minimal infrastructure appeal to those seeking an unspoiled coastal experience.Swimming and shore
Swimming conditions at Lopata are generally favorable, with moderate depth progression and clear waters that extend over pebbles. Reviewers frequently highlight opportunities for snorkeling, noting the vibrant marine life and underwater visibility. The pebbly seabed may require caution for barefoot swimmers, though the flat, smooth rocks near the shore are described as comfortable for wading. The beach's sheltered position within the cove reduces wave intensity, making it accessible for most swimmers.Facilities and activities
Lopata Beach supports two primary activities: kayaking and surfing, both of which are explicitly listed in the catalog. The absence of structured amenities means visitors rely on natural features and limited on-site facilities. One reviewer noted a beach bar offering cold drinks, though this is not confirmed as a permanent feature. The beach's secluded nature and proximity to Veliki Rat make it a popular spot for those seeking alternatives to more crowded nearby beaches.Access and location
Lopata Beach is located at Put Lučice 2, Verunić, a small settlement on the island of Šolta, near Zadar. Visitors often access the beach by walking from nearby Sakarun Beach, a 20-minute stroll, or by driving to the area. The lack of formal parking infrastructure is implied by some reviews, which describe challenges in reaching the beach by car. Its location within Šolta's coastal landscape places it near the popular Veliki Rat, a larger, more developed beach that serves as a regional landmark. What visitors say
Reviewers consistently praise Lopata Beach for its natural beauty and comparative cleanliness compared to nearby Sakarun. Multiple visitors describe it as 'a paradise in a small rocky beach' with 'clear water and a lot of fish,' emphasizing its snorkeling potential. While some note the absence of shade and the need to pay for sunbeds with canopies (15€ for half a day), others highlight its seclusion and appeal to nudists. One reviewer explicitly stated, 'It is way better than beach Sakarun, because its clean and only a few people go there.'Practical tips
Visitors should be prepared for limited shade and consider bringing sun protection, as the beach lacks natural cover. The beach bar mentioned in reviews may not be consistently available, so bringing personal supplies is advisable. The 20-minute walk from Sakarun Beach is a practical option for those avoiding parking challenges.Exploring the coast by yacht
Lopata Beach lies within the Zadar sailing region, a popular area for motor yacht charters due to its sheltered bays and proximity to historical sites. While the beach itself is not a marina or anchorage, the surrounding Šolta island and Veliki Rat provide strategic points for yachters exploring the eastern Adriatic. For those interested in yacht-based access, the nearby Zadar Marina offers docking facilities, and the Euro-Agent Yacht Search page can help identify vessels operating in this region.Nearby Points of Interest
Lopata Beach's proximity to Veliki Rat, a larger, more developed beach, makes it a convenient base for exploring the Šolta island coastline. The nearby village of Verunić offers traditional Croatian cuisine and accommodations, while Zadar, approximately 15 kilometers away, provides access to cultural attractions like the Roman Forum and the Sea Organ.Anchorages in the surrounding area

Some reviewers note that the beach is 'open to nudists,' though this is not an official policy. Visitors should be mindful of local norms and the presence of other beachgoers.Nearby beaches
Reviews
This beach is one of the nicest places close to veli rat. And yes, it is way better than beach Sakarun, because its clean and only a few peiple go there. It is also a place to go snorkeling because the veiw is nice.
Paradise in a small rocky beach. The rocks are flat, they don’t harm your feets. A lot of fishes, very clear water and a quite lovely place. They have a beach bar. Better than Sakarun 100 times.
Beautiful natural beach (two beaches- one from both sides), almost without people, one bar with cold drinks. The only minus is no shade at all - you have to pay for sun-beds with sunshades (15€ for half day).
This is natural beach, actually two beaches on a cape Lopata. The beach is made of rough gravel, with no infrastructure. There is no shade also. Secluded, it is open to nudists than nearby Sakarun beach 5 minutes walk.
I'd take this any day over Sakarya beach. So much more quiet and scenic. Absolutely beautiful. Driving there seems a bit of an issue but we just walked from Sakarun beach - 20 mins walk and well worth it. Zadar
