Lojena Beach - Otok Žut, Croatia
Beach character
Lojena Beach is defined by its cove shape, measuring 70 meters in length and 10 meters in width. The predominant surface is black sand mixed with pebbles, though the beach is described as 'beige sand with pebbles' in some visitor accounts. The seabed is covered with standard-grain sand, and the depth increases gradually without sharp drops. This moderate depth profile makes it suitable for a range of water activities, though snorkeling opportunities are noted as limited in some reviews. The beach's landscape is described as 'picturesque,' with views that extend into the Kornati archipelago.Swimming and shore
The beach's moderate depth and gentle slope make it accessible for swimmers, though the pebbled sections may require careful navigation. Snorkeling is possible but not extensively praised in reviews, with one visitor noting only 'a couple of fishes' visible. Kayaking and surfing are explicitly listed as available activities, suggesting the beach's waves and shoreline configuration support these pursuits. The black sand and pebble mix may affect the comfort of barefoot swimming but does not detract from the overall accessibility.Facilities and activities
No structured amenities are listed for Lojena Beach, though the beach is explicitly recommended for camping, hiking, and nudist visitors. Activities available at the beach include kayaking, surfing, and snorkeling. The lack of formal facilities means visitors should plan accordingly, though the natural setting compensates with its scenic value.Access and location
Lojena Beach is located on Otok Žut, a small island in the Šibenik-Knin County, part of the Kornati National Park. Access is primarily by boat from nearby settlements such as Pristanišće, with coordinates at 43.82075° N, 15.25048° E. The beach is within proximity to the broader Dalmatian coast, connecting to sailing routes that extend toward the islands of Šolta, Hvar, and the mainland town of Šibenik. What visitors say
Visitors have reported mixed experiences at Lojena Beach. In June 2025, Alexandru Matei described it as 'the best beach in our trip in Croatia,' praising its 'sandy beach in water' but noting limited snorkeling opportunities. A November 2024 review highlighted overcrowding, with the reviewer suggesting visiting 'outside the tourist season' to avoid crowds. Helena Horvat (August 2024) echoed this, stating that 'too many tourists from excursion boats spoil the overall experience.' Conversely, Marietta (May 2024) praised the 'perfect water' for swimming during the early season.
The beach's 'packed' status during high season contrasts with its 'good' cleanliness rating, indicating that while it is popular, it maintains a reasonable standard of upkeep. The reviews collectively suggest that Lojena Beach is best experienced during shoulder seasons, when crowds are less dense.
Practical tips
Given the beach's popularity during peak season, consider visiting in late spring or early autumn to avoid overcrowding. The black sand and pebble mix may make barefoot swimming uncomfortable, so water shoes could be useful. The beach's proximity to the Kornati National Park offers opportunities for hiking or boat excursions beyond the immediate shoreline.
Exploring the coast by yacht
Lojena Beach is situated within a sailing area that connects to the broader Dalmatian coast, making it a potential stop for yachts exploring the Kornati archipelago. Nearby marinas on Otok Žut and the mainland provide docking options for charter boats. The beach's location near Šibenik-Knin County also places it within reach of sailing routes toward Šolta, Hvar, and the mainland. While the beach itself is not an anchorage, its proximity to these sailing hubs makes it a viable destination for yacht charter guests seeking a combination of natural beauty and coastal access.
Best Times to Visit
Reviews suggest that Lojena Beach is most enjoyable outside of peak summer months. While May and early June offer pleasant conditions with fewer crowds, visitors in August may encounter overcrowding due to excursion boats. The beach's 'good' cleanliness rating indicates that it is well-maintained, though the high crowd index during peak season necessitates planning ahead.

Reviews
Best beach in our trip in Croatia in Zadar area, Kornati national park. Not the best for snorkeling fans as only couple of fishes can be seen, but great sandy beach (in water not on shore!). We were beginning of June, don’t know how it’s in full season!!! monica pronzini
This place is really beautiful but the beach was overcrowded, so instead of fighting for a spot on the pebbled beach we had a quick bath and headed for the top of the hill to really take in the landscape.
the beach as a beach is really beautiful but... too many tourists at the same time coming from excursion boats spoil the overall experience. you should visit the location outside the tourist season to really experience the beauty of the surroundings
Beautiful bay, easy to walk into the sea. May 2024, but the water was perfect for a nice swim. Šibenik-Knin
