Lizard's Beach - Novalja, Croatia
Lizard's Beach, located in Škuncini Stani near Novalja on Croatia's northern coast, is a secluded cove characterized by its rocky shoreline and smooth depth gradient. This 80-meter-long beach sits within a mountainous landscape, offering a tranquil escape for those seeking solitude. While the seabed is covered in large boulders, the gradual increase in depth makes it suitable for children and non-swimmers. The beach's remote location and natural setting make it a unique destination for leisure seekers.
Beach character
The beach's defining feature is its rocky terrain, with boulders forming the majority of the shoreline. This creates a rugged, natural aesthetic that contrasts with more conventional sandy beaches. The surrounding mountains provide a dramatic backdrop, enhancing the sense of isolation. Despite the rocky surface, the seabed's smooth gradient ensures safer swimming conditions for families. The area's lack of modern amenities emphasizes its untouched character, appealing to visitors seeking a raw coastal experience.
Swimming and shore
Swimming at Lizard's Beach is feasible due to the smooth depth increase, though the rocky seabed may pose challenges for some. Snorkeling is a notable activity here, with clear waters revealing underwater terrain. Visitors should be cautious of sea urchins, as noted in some reports. The absence of artificial structures or facilities means the beach remains a natural swimming environment, ideal for those comfortable with rocky shorelines.
Facilities and activities
No formal amenities are present at Lizard's Beach. There are no shops, restrooms, or parking directly on-site, though a parking area is available near the access road. The primary activity is snorkeling, with the rocky seabed offering opportunities to explore marine life. The beach's isolation means it is best suited for visitors prioritizing natural immersion over convenience.
Access and location
Access to Lizard's Beach requires traversing an off-road track, with vehicles needing to be left at a nearby parking area. The path to the beach involves navigating rocky terrain, necessitating sturdy footwear. The beach is located in Novalja, a coastal town in the Lika-Senj region, which is part of Croatia's Adriatic coast. Its remote location makes it a less-traveled destination, appealing to those seeking seclusion.

Reviews
Beautiful beach with a great view, you can get here only by an off road track, but you can leave your “normal" car on the parking near the way there. If you choose to get there by foot remember to wear flat sporty shoes cause there are lots of rocks (photo) If you’re going for beach day here remember to take a sunshade and a lot of water to stay hydrated, there are no shops near the beach. Great place to take amazing photos and spend unforgettable time 🩷
Great isolated rocky beach!
Very beautiful countryside’s abandoned bay with amazing possibilities to relax a day on your own.
Great view, not crowded, so you can escape from people, bars. You can find some trash there.
Stone/grass, not very touristic, may be complicated to swim for children. A lot of sea urchins. Clean water. Warm water. Do not drive below old hangar, road becomes a trail quickly. We fed a lizard there. Lika-Senj
