Kanalic Beach, Pula: A Hidden Cove with Diverse Water Sports, Croatia
Beach character
Kanalic Beach is a narrow cove with a predominantly black sand and pebble shoreline, interspersed with stretches of beige sand. The seabed mirrors this composition, with gradual depth increases that make it suitable for swimmers of varying abilities. Natural rock formations provide shade, though the beach lacks structured amenities like showers or restrooms. Its size and shape create a sheltered environment, but the marine life has been noted as 'kinda dead' in some reviews, raising questions about local ecological health.Swimming and shore
The beach’s shallow, gradual slope into the sea offers safe swimming conditions for families and leisure swimmers. However, the pebbled sections may pose challenges for those unaccustomed to such terrain. The natural rock formations along the shore provide informal seating areas, though there are no designated picnic spots or umbrellas. The sea floor’s mix of sand and pebbles means swimmers should be mindful of potential discomfort in the shallows.Facilities and activities
Kanalic Beach has no formal facilities, but its appeal lies in its water sports potential. Diving, surfing, and snorkeling are explicitly listed as available activities, though no rental equipment or instruction services are mentioned. Pets are permitted, with dedicated beach areas indicated by information signs. Visitors should note the beach’s poor cleanliness rating and the presence of litter on the path to the shore, as reported by some guests.Access and location
Located at Pelini ulica 2, Pula, Kanalic Beach requires a 500-meter walk from the nearest road, contributing to its relatively uncrowded character. Pula itself is a coastal town on the Istrian Peninsula, known for its Roman heritage and proximity to the Adriatic Sea. The beach’s isolation makes it a peaceful escape, though visitors should be prepared for the lack of direct vehicular access and the need to traverse a path that has been noted for litter. What visitors say
Reviewers have highlighted both the beach’s tranquility and its ecological concerns. Daniel Orban praised its 'very nice' atmosphere but noted the marine life’s apparent decline. Strahinja Lukic described it as a 'hidden beach' with a shaded section until noon, though he mentioned litter on the path. Both reviewers agreed on the absence of crowds, with Lukic emphasizing that the 500-meter walk deters most visitors. The beach’s pet-friendly policy and lack of formal facilities were also recurring themes in feedback.Practical tips
Bring trash bags to address litter on the path to the beach. Wear sturdy footwear for the pebbled shoreline. Check for updates on marine life conditions, as some visitors have noted ecological concerns. Arrive early to secure a spot in the shaded section before midday.Exploring the coast by yacht

Reviews
Very nice beach it is shame that the marine life is kinda dead
Nice hidden beach. Part is pebbled and part is stone. Large part of it is in the shade until noon. It takes a 500 m walk to reach, so it's never crowded. There is, sadly, some litter on the path to the beach.
