Beach character

Coala Beach spans approximately 40 meters in length and 20 meters in width, with a shoreline primarily composed of boulders. The beach's natural features include shaded areas from overhanging rock formations and a sharp increase in water depth near the shore, which may pose challenges for young children. The seabed is similarly rocky, creating a terrain that's more suited for experienced swimmers and snorkelers rather than casual wading.

Swimming and shore

The beach's rocky composition influences its swimming conditions. While the water is clear and inviting, the sudden drop-off near the shore means swimmers should exercise caution. Snorkeling is a popular activity here, though reviewers note that marine life visibility may vary compared to other nearby spots like Red Island. The beach's natural boulders provide informal seating areas, though visitors are advised to bring their own mats or towels for comfort.

Facilities and activities

No formal amenities are present at Coala Beach. However, the area supports water-based activities including stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), surfing, and snorkeling. The lack of structured facilities means visitors should plan to bring their own equipment or arrange for rentals in nearby Rovinj. The beach's natural setting makes it an ideal spot for those seeking an adventurous, low-impact coastal experience.

Access and location

Reaching Coala Beach requires navigating a gravel road that winds through the Istrian countryside. The final stretch includes a short, rocky path that some visitors choose to park along the roadside and walk. This route offers scenic views of Cisterna Beach before reaching the cove. Parking is available along the road, though reviewers recommend arriving early to secure a spot, particularly during summer months.

What visitors say

Visitors consistently highlight the beach's scenic approach and clear waters. One reviewer noted, "The gravel road and short walk gave us an adventurous feeling. Arriving at the beach was very satisfying and made us feel euphoric." Others emphasized the beach's tranquility despite its popularity, with one stating, "Not too busy at all, plenty of parking spots." However, the rocky terrain and lack of formal facilities mean it's best suited for those seeking a more rugged, nature-focused beach day.

Practical tips

Consider arriving early to secure parking along the gravel road. The final approach includes a rocky path that may be challenging for larger vehicles. Bring a towel or mat for seating, as the boulders provide limited natural seating. While snorkeling is possible, marine life visibility may vary compared to other nearby spots.

Clear Blue Water. Not so difficult to get, not very crowded. You can go with car, park there, get through a little forest and then get into the water. It's a good place!

Great beach, not too busy at all, plenty of parking spots

After reading the for this place, we decided to go here. We were hoping it wouldn't be too hard to find, and luckily it was quite easy. The last part of your trip will be a two-way off-road (gravel) road, which takes about 10-15 minutes. On your route you will pass Cisterna Beach, which was quite crowded. It's worth it to drive further down the road, to Coala beach. At a certain point in the final bit, the road becomes rocky for a few meters. That's where we decided to park our car on the side of the road and walk the last part. As long as your car is not blocking the road, you could park anywhere alongside it. We drive a small hatchback, which might have made it over the rocky part, but we played it safe. Until this point it wasn't a problem at all to drive on the gravel. The walk wasn't too long: 5-10 minutes. In the end you enter a narrow path through the woods. Once you get there, the view is phenomenal. The gravel road and the short walk gave us a adventurous feeling. Arriving at the beach was very satisfying and made us feel euphoric. The beach was nice, but if you want to be comfortable you'll need something to sit on. It's fun to snorkel here, but we've seen more fish in other places, like red island. The pictures on here give a good impression of the place, and in conclusion: it's worth the drive and walk :)
