Cava Beach - Mali Stradun, Dubrovnik, Croatia
Cava Beach is a multi-cove shoreline located in Mali Stradun, near Babin Kuk in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Stretching 180 meters with a width of 20 meters, the beach is characterized by small beige pebbles and framed by mountainous terrain. Its location on the Adriatic coast makes it a popular spot for both relaxation and water-based activities, with direct access to snorkeling and jetskiing. The beach's proximity to Dubrovnik's historic Old Town and its reputation as a lively destination for young travelers and families define its unique character.
Beach character
The beach's natural features include a landscape dominated by mountains, with the seabed covered in medium-sized pebbles. The depth increases gradually, making it suitable for swimmers but less ideal for those seeking soft sand. The beach's shape consists of multiple coves, creating a series of sheltered areas along the shoreline. Visitors note the striking contrast between the beige pebbles and the clear waters, though some find the rocky terrain less comfortable for prolonged sunbathing.
Swimming and shore
The pebble-covered seabed is a defining feature of Cava Beach, offering a unique swimming experience. While the moderate depth increase ensures safety for most swimmers, the pebbles may cause discomfort for those unaccustomed to rocky shorelines. The beach's orientation and mountainous backdrop create natural shelter from strong winds, though the pebbles themselves do not provide the same level of cushioning as sandy beaches. Snorkeling is a popular activity, with clear waters revealing marine life in the shallows.
Facilities and activities
Cava Beach does not have formal amenities such as showers, restrooms, or parking, as noted in the catalog. However, its proximity to bars and clubs in the surrounding area means visitors can access refreshments and services nearby. The beach is officially associated with two activities: snorkeling and jetskiing. These are likely facilitated by operators based in the nearby settlement, though specific rental details are not provided in the catalog.
Access and location
Located in Mali Stradun, Cava Beach is part of the Babin Kuk area, a short distance from Dubrovnik's Old Town. Access requires navigating a set of steps leading down to the shoreline, a feature mentioned by multiple visitors. The beach's position on the Adriatic coast places it within reach of Dubrovnik's marinas and yacht charter operations, making it a convenient stop for sailors exploring the region. Its coordinates (42.66387, 18.06131) situate it within the broader coastal network of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
What visitors say
Visitors have consistently highlighted Cava Beach's lively atmosphere and scenic setting. One reviewer noted the beach's 'glorious' ambiance, with 'great service and a DJ' creating a party-like environment. Another described it as 'one of the most wonderful beach clubs in Europe,' emphasizing its class and scenery. However, some visitors have mentioned challenges, such as the steep steps to reach the beach and the higher cost of services compared to other destinations. The beach's reputation as a 'young and active crowd' hotspot aligns with its offering of water sports and nearby nightlife.
Practical tips
Visitors should be prepared for the steps leading to the beach and consider the pebble terrain when choosing footwear. The beach's popularity means it can be crowded during peak seasons, particularly in summer. Those seeking a more tranquil experience may prefer visiting during off-peak months, though the area remains active year-round with winter closures noted in some reviews.

Again everywhere shut for winter but lovely place apart from the steps down and UP to get there
What a place!! Glorious beach, great service and a DJ. We laid here chilling all day with cocktails and food. We sat on the front row by the water looking out. Yes it's expensive but you get what you pay for 🌞
Been here in ‘19, pre-covid. Beautiful location. Exactly where you want to be if you like good drinks, a good scenery and some level of class. One of the most wonderful beach clubs in Europe I have been. Definitely worth a visit!
